Sharing my thoughts in multiple languages3

I’ve recently upgraded my blog and tweaked it a bit, and decided to try out a plugin called Gengo, which enables multilanguage blogging.

It works like this: If you go to paulbakaus.com, the plugin will detect your locale and tries to fetch the blog post you want to read in your default language. If it doesn’t exist (so it’s not translated), you will simply see the english version. For example, this blog entry will be written in German if you use a german locale.

I plan on having copies of my posts in German and Japanese. Japanese is especially important, since there’s a big language barrier, and I really want my posts to be read over there :-)

If you’re willing to help me translate or maybe add another language, please feel free to leave a comment or get in touch with me via email, and we can work out details.

Cheers,
Paul

on the on hand side its great that you take the effort and translate your posts to other languages, but on the other hand side your way of judging the language the user has to deal with is a bit strict, just because the browser locale is set to a certain language doesn’t make it the preferred language. give the user the choice. (btw. even when I tamper your URLs to language=de it falls back to en …

i’d like to quote “pointed ears” -> http://bytes.com/groups/javascript/151966-default-locale#post575128

Hi there,
I have to agree with you – I was worried when my english posts didn’t show up on the iPhone, because it only has the “de” locale, and Firefox for me has “de+en”. I’ll try to work on a solution asap.

Thanks,
Paul
